Ravjot Mehek Singh’s directed documentary – “I stand with Jessy” has won the Award of Excellence in the 8th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival – 18. The award has been presented under the category of “Best Documentary“.
The documentary titled “I stand with Jessy” has been making waves for low income women with breast cancer in the United States. Additionally, it also won the Impact Doc Awards Film Festival in 2017. And the most important is that it is Ravjot’s first documentary, which won two film festivals already.
Winning the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival was a dream come true to Ravjot & one step closer to her dream of becoming the youngest women to win an Oscar in the directing category. Along with this dream, Ravjot hopes to create long running sci-fi television shows that have an all colored cast to promote diversity in Hollywood.
Ravjot Mehek Singh is an Indian-American filmmaker who began her film career directing films and TV shows at young age of 19, and also began directing major music videos right away like – Pinky Paras’s Mehndi & Mai ki karaan.
Ravjot looks up to directors like such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Darren Aronofsky as her idols and hopes to work with both in the near future. She is currently directing two upcoming films in the United States, that can be expected in the fall of 2018. She is also working on directing a new music video for Singer Pinky Paras, that will be shot all throughout the United States.
Ravjot hopes that her work in both documentary and in television, will help other young women create a path in the American film Industry. We also took her interview, after the release of “Mai ki karaan” under her direction. The song was sung by Singer Pinky Paras & Irshad Sabri.
